Can I choose the meals I want?

Yes. You now have the option to select your meals each week for your meal plan! Your selections are based on availability, the sooner you choose your meals the better. The window for meal selection begins Tuesdays at 12:00pm PT and ends Fridays at 11:59pm PT. Billing will occur on your account 12-24 hours after meal selection has been completed.

How do I select my meals?

On the top right of your dashboard, click “Plans” and click on the “select meals” button on the active meal plan you want to start with. Once you confirm and save your meals selected, you will follow the same steps for any other active meal plans you have.

You will need a separate tab open to view the nutritional information of each meal. Nutrition facts and ingredients for our meals can be found on the menu page of our website and click on the meal of interest. From here on the pop-up screen of the meal, a button labeled “Ingredients & More” is on the bottom right and you will find the inquired information. Our developers are working to improve this portion of the experience, so no second tab is needed for the near future).

How does shipping & delivery work?

Once your order is processed, your meals are shipped via GLS or FedEx Air service. A tracking number will be automatically emailed to you and it will upload on the main page of your dashboard once the carrier scans it.

Do you deliver to my area?

Yes. We deliver nationwide, anywhere in the U.S. Shipping can cost up to $9.99 on orders below $100. Orders above $100 any given week qualify for Free Shipping in the 48 contiguous United States. Hawaii and Alaska may be charged Shipping regardless. Please note this time, we do not deliver to P.O. boxes.

When will my meals arrive?

Once you are billed, your meal plans are shipped via GLS or FedEx for the following Friday delivery, guaranteed by Saturday. You will be provided with a tracking number by email and in your dashboard ahead of time.

If you wish to receive meals on Wednesday or Thursday, an extra charge will incur. Please reach out to our Customer Experience team on through our chat on our contact page or email hello@freshnlean.com if you are interested. To expedite an order, it must be applied before Friday 11:59pm PT.

How do I know when my delivery is on the way?

Your meals will be shipped via GLS or FedEx Air service and a tracking number will be automatically emailed to you. You may check up on your meal delivery progress anytime. GLS has until the end of the day Friday to deliver. Guaranteed by Saturday. There is a ‘shipper release’ on all of our packages, so if you are not home at the time of delivery, the box will be left on your doorstep.

Does someone need to be present to receive the delivery?

Nope. The ‘shipper release’ means if you are not home at the time of delivery, the box will be left on your doorstep. If you have any special instructions for GLS or FedEx to access your delivery address, please be sure to include them in the ‘special instructions’ box on the order page. The special instructions field allows 34 characters including spaces. Whilst we have high-quality control standards during the preparation and packaging of our meals, we have no control over GLS or FedEx operations.

What do I do after receiving my delivery?

Upon receiving your delivery, refrigerate your meal packs as soon as possible. They are safe in the box for 6-8 hours once delivered and during summertime 1-3 hours pending where you are located for extreme heat. You can freeze the meals, however, we recommend eating them fresh. If you do decide to freeze, letting your food thaw in your refrigerator for 36-48 hours before eating yields the best results.

Can I hold my order or change the delivery address?

Yes, our Customer Experience Team can hold an order that hasn’t been fully processed! Because our containers are vacuum sealed, our dishes are great to travel with. If you need to change your delivery address, you can manually do so in your dashboard or reach out to our Customer Experience team through our chat contact page

You can have delivery addresses, go to hotels and more, just be sure to include a shipping note with no more than 34 characters, spaces included, to assist the carrier. If you are manually changing your address in your dashboard, you will have to save the new address for all active subscriptions (meal plans), and it is set as your default shipping address before the deadline provided below. Click on “Account” on the top right of the main dashboard page, you will mid-way on the page “Shipping address”. Click “Edit” and input the new shipping address. Once saved, go to the next “active” meal plan and do the same on that same “account” page.

Please note, for a change of address we do need to be notified before Friday 11:59pm PT for the following week’s delivery. This applies if you either want to suspend or receive your box at a different location. When you do suspend for a period, just let us know when you would like us to resume your deliveries.

How do I cancel a delivery?

We can guarantee to cancel a newly billed order if the request is made before the Friday 11:59pm PT cutoff.  We cannot guarantee our Customer Experience team can stop and cancel an order after the Friday 11:59pm PT cutoff. Cancelling a subscription does not cancel an already billed order. If the order has fully processed and/or has left our facility, we will not be able to stop the delivery.

Please contact us via chat on our contact page for immediate assistance. There is no obligation to continue service past any given delivery, however, you must either manually cancel your subscription in your customer dashboard (under “plans” -> edit for each active plan -> at the very end of page the cancellation button) or request via chat to cancel your subscription or we will continue delivering meals to you.

When will I be billed?

If meals are selected, billing starts 12-24 hours after the meals are selected for the following week’s delivery and before that billing occurs, you can make changes. If no meals are selected by Friday 11:59 pm PT, your next delivery will be chef-curated based on your meal plan and exclusions; billing will occur Saturday. We make our meals completely from scratch each week and do our best to accommodate your needs. Order modification and cancellation requests must be placed before the Friday 11:59 pm PT cutoff to be applied to the following week’s delivery. Requests made after that deadline will be applied to the next following week’s delivery.

Refunds are not guaranteed and are based on a case-by-case basis. For immediate assistance, send us a chat contact page if you are not satisfied and we will do our best to accommodate you!

What do I do when I receive my meals?

Upon receiving your delivery, refrigerate your meal packs as soon as possible. They are safe in the box for 6-8 hours once delivered and during summertime 1-3 hours pending where you are located for extreme heat. You can freeze the meals which will extend their shelf-life up to 6-8 weeks, however, we recommend eating them fresh. If you do decide to freeze, letting your food thaw in your refrigerator for 36-48 hours before eating yields the best results.

Do my meals require any preparation before I can eat them?

Our goal is to take the hassle out of healthy eating, so all you have to do is heat and eat. After peeling off the label, simply puncture a few holes on the plastic film, and microwave your meal for 2-3 minutes. You can also reheat your food on the stove or in the oven if you prefer.

Do I have to add any extra ingredients to my meals?

Everything we make is all-inclusive except for the breakfast granola, for which we suggest adding fresh fruit, and/or organically-sourced, unsweetened plant-based milk (almond, soy, rice, hemp, oat etc). However, you’re more than welcome to add any additional ingredients/seasonings to customize any meal!

How do the meals stay fresh during shipping?

Thanks to our vacuumed sealed trays, meals typically stay fresh up to 7-10 days post-delivery, once stored in the refrigerator. You can extend the shelf life 6-8 weeks if stored in the freezer.

How long will my food stay fresh?

Thanks to our vacuumed sealed trays, meals typically stay fresh up to 7-10 days post delivery, once stored in the refrigerator. You can extend the shelf life 6-8 weeks if stored in the freezer.

How are the meals packaged?

Our meals are vacuum-sealed in BPA-free, recyclable trays. The plastic seals are also recyclable. The trays are delivered in insulated cardboard boxes with ice packs to keep them at safe temperatures.

What should I do with my box after my delivery?

Sustainability is something we’re passionate about, so we’d love it if you could recycle our packaging after use! The box is cardboard and can be recycled along with the plastic trays and seal. For the ice gel packs, you can follow the manufacturers instructions on their website (logo on gel packs). Do NOT pour the gel down a sink or drain. Simply pouring its content on concrete will suffice for it dry naturally and the pack itself can be recycled.  The padding/insulation is biodegradable.

Where can I find nutritional information about your meals?

Nutrition facts and ingredients for our meals can be found on the menu page of our website and click on the meal of interest. From here on the pop-up screen of the meal, a button labeled “Ingredients & More” is on the bottom right and you will find the inquired information. We also include labels attached to the back side of our meal trays.

What kinds of ingredients do you use?

We source whole-food, nutrient-dense, organic ingredients. All our meals are GMO free and we offer dairy-free, gluten-free, meat-free, and soy-free options. In our plans containing animal products, you’ll find grass-fed meat, free-range poultry, and sustainable fish – all antibiotic and hormone-free.

The compassionate treatment and welfare of farmed animals are very important to us at Fresh N Lean. We partner with suppliers who are equally committed to ensuring farm animals have a humane life. That is why we are committing to source all of our eggs with a certification recognized by the ASPCA® Shop With Your Heart program by 2021.

Are your meals certified organic?

We use organic products when high quality raw materials are available and retain the flexibility to use conventional ingredients when the organic raw materials do not meet our quality standards. In food manufacturing each menu item must be certified individually, this process can be time consuming and defer from our ability to quickly innovate and update our menus. We are currently working on certifying certain menu items that are consistently made with 95% + organic raw materials year-round.

Do you use processed foods or artificial ingredients?

We never use overly processed ingredients and everything is non-GMO and FDA-compliant.

Do you use any canned vegetables?

We only use fresh vegetables in all of your meals. Where it makes the most sense we use organic products. For example, all of the “Dirty Dozen” ingredients in your meals are organic. Generally, for the “Clean 15” we use conventional however, ingredients like cauliflower are sourced from organic farms.

Any ingredients that fall in between these two categories such as squash and eggplant are usually and frequently organic as well.

How are the meals prepared? Is anything fried?

Every meal is made from scratch, just like you would prepare in your own home (only in much larger portions). None of our food is fried – our professional chefs typically bake, roast, or steam ingredients to maximize nutrient availability (and taste).

What types oils do you cook with?

We cook with Olive oil, Coconut oil, Avocado oil, and Walnut oil. The Keto meal plan only uses Avocado oil and Walnut oil to assist with healthy fat intake. We do not use Canola oil in our recipes; however, it is present in the Beyond Patties that are used in our Standard Vegan meal plan.

Is the meat you use organic?

We strive to use the best ingredients available while also supporting sustainability. Here’s more information about the quality of meat we use.

Beef: We use grass-fed beef which is by definition humane and never confined to a feedlot.

Chicken: All of our chicken is Raised Without Antibiotics including our chicken sausage. The only exception is chicken breast for our bulk shredded chicken. Our goal is to source chicken as sustainable and humanely as possible which is why we’ve partnered with Animal Equality on the Better Chicken Commitment.

Is your seafood wild-caught? Where is it sourced from?

We only use shrimp and seafood that’s been certified by the Marine Stewardship Council for wild caught species and Aquaculture Stewardship Council for socially and environmentally farm-raised seafood.

Any seafood that has been farm-raised is only sourced from sea farms held to stringent standards.

How do you avoid cross-contamination for specific dietary needs?

To avoid cross-contamination we use a variety of food safety HACCP programs, allergen controls, and processes like preparing Vegan meals on separate shifts than other meal plans.

Do I need to take any supplements?

Our meals provide a wide variety of nutrients and are dietician-approved, but you may still need to supplement or eat additional food in order to reach the nutrient daily recommendations. We recommend adding our almonds and sesame chips (on our A La Carte menu) to your meal plan to cover most of those nutrients.

If you are on a plant-based meal plan, we recommend taking Omega 3’s DHA & EPA, Vitamin B12, Iodine, and Vitamin D to cover common deficiencies seen on a vegan diet. For women on all meal plans, an iron supplement may also be helpful (depending on what else you choose to eat).

What is the nutritional breakdown of your food?

The macronutrient breakdown varies between plans and individual meals, however, you can always count on getting a variety of whole foods. We use ingredients that are nutrient-dense and fiber-rich, nourishing your body and helping you feel fuller for longer. That means plenty of vegetables, and then a range of whole grains, pulses, and lean animal protein (depending on which plan you select).

I’m very active - will I get enough protein?

Our meal plans are designed to provide enough protein for the average individual. However, if you are very active, we recommend the Protein+ plan which provides higher amounts of lean animal protein and energizing complex-carbs. Regardless of your meal plan choice, if you want to add additional protein or sides, you can always visit our A La Carte menu to fit your needs.

Will your meals help me lose weight?

Weight loss is not guaranteed with our plans, but many of our customers report great results. Since our meals are fiber-rich and nutritious, they help you feel fuller for longer and can potentially reduce the urge to snack – great news for anyone attempting to lose weight.

What if I'm still hungry?

If you’re still hungry after eating one of our meals, we recommend eating a side salad, a piece of fruit, or one of our snacks. We offer delicious granola and a variety of almonds on our A La Carte menu, as well as a variety of vegetable, whole grain, and lean meat sides.

Are your meals low sodium?

Most of our meals are considered lower sodium than the average meal and other meal prep companies, but sodium may vary per meal. That said, eating three meals a day from any of our meal plans provides less than 2,300 mg of sodium, which is within the general recommendation for an average 2,000 calorie diet.

The majority of our dishes can be considered lower sodium compared to average meals and other meal prep services. However, it’s important to note that the sodium content can fluctuate slightly depending on the specific meal. Even so, consuming three meals daily from any of our meal plans provides less than 2,300 mg of sodium, aligning within the generally recommended amount for a standard 2,000 calorie diet.

Do you use any refined sugars?

We avoid using overly processed sugars in our meals, but sometimes add small amounts of unrefined sweeteners (such as maple syrup) to breakfasts and sauces.

Are your meals paleo, gluten-free, dairy-free or vegan?

Two of our meal plans (Vegan, Vegan low-carb) are fully vegan, and our Paleo plan is also dairy-free. The exceptions to our dairy-free rule are the Protein Plus, Keto, Mediterranean Diet, and Whole 30 meal plans. Most of our meals are gluten-free, so if you want to follow a gluten-free diet you can select it as a preferences under ‘allergens’ in your dashboard.
