The Magical Jicama French Fry

This spicy jicama fries recipe can be made as a snack, appetizer, or side dish. Jicama is the star of the show and transforms into a picture-perfect French fry in just 35 minutes. This dish is the perfect paleo and low carb alternative to the real deal, with just 20 grams of carbohydrates per serving. Your average deep-fried, potato-based French fry can have upwards of 48 grams of carbs per serving, making these spicy jicama fries the favored alternative.

Jicama is the perfect blank canvas, which is why we went bold on the flavors in this dish. Spicy cayenne pepper gives this spicy jicama fries recipe a kick of heat while serving as a metabolism booster and digestive aid. Ground turmeric is what gives these spicy jicama fries their golden hue reminiscent of a true French fry. This spice is also high in circumin, which has natural anti-inflammatory properties.

The spice blend for this spicy jicama fries recipe is rounded out with garlic powder, a heart and gut-healthy addition to the meal, in combination with the perfect amount of salt. Avocado oil is the oil used in this recipe not only because it can improve heart health, but also because the fries are cooked at high heat, which means they’re best prepared using an oil with a high smoke point. Olive oil has a smoke point of 350 degrees, which means it should not be used for cooking above that temperature.

These spicy jicama fries have a well-balanced spice profile and would taste good with virtually any sauce. Options include vegan sour cream, your favorite aioli, or sriracha mayo. Chopped chives serve as a pop of color and crunch to round out this perfect dish. We suggest serving these as a side dish for our paleo meal delivery plan!
